In 2009 he was awarded the Generations of Leadership Circle Medal presented to those individuals who have served as President of the Medical Staff and to the outgoing Chair of the Board of Trustees.  This award "represents induction into a special group of hospital leaders who have given unselfishly of their time and expertise to move forward the mission of Newton-Wellesley Hospital for the good of all served".

SERVICE TO THE MILITARY

PROJECT C.A.R.E.

Dr. Weiss has volunteered his services at no charge to active and disabled members of the military through Project C.A.R.E.   Service members who suffer life-threatening and disfiguring injuries receive excellent medical care from active duty medical staff.  However, these injuries can result in emotional distress and altered self-image after discharge.  The mission of Project C.A.R.E. "is to provide emotional support along with surgical and non-surgical care in an effort to improve appearance and restore function".  All active duty personnel who suffered traumatic injuries are eligible.

COSMETIC SURGERY

By way of thanks to those who serve, Dr. Weiss offers discounted surgical fees for cosmetic procedures unrelated to any traumatic injuries to all active members of the military, their spouses, and their children.

HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS

Local High School seniors who are seriously interested in pursuing a career in medicine are provided the opportunity to take a one month internship with Dr. Weiss.  Whenever patients permit, students are able to observe the practice of plastic surgery both in the office and in the hospital, including the operating room.  These are formal arrangements with local high schools and include didactic teaching and written evaluations.  Our last student from Weston High High School in May, 2011 also had the opportunity to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Boston.
